Daufuskie Difference is the way to get to remote Daufuskie Island. You cannot drive there. You can only get there by boat. Daufuskie Difference operates the only public passenger ferry service to Daufuskie.
They also offer totally unique guided history tours of Daufuskie. You depart from Hilton Head’s Broad Creek Marina aboard the ‘Delta Lady’ and arrive a short time later at Daufuskie’s Freeport Marina.
Once you arrive at Freeport Marina, you have a choice of renting a golf cart to explore on your own (maps provided), or join a guided history tour.
If you are interested in the Gullah culture, Daufuskie Difference offers history tours that include this unique group of people. Climb aboard for a narrated excursion into Daufuskie’s special past. You’ll visit many island landmarks, including a 120-year-old Gullah church, Pat Conroy’s schoolhouse, and the Mary Dunn Cemetery that dates back hundreds of years. Included as well is the Daufuskie Crab Company Store and Restaurant, filled with relics, crafts and books, and home to the Daufuskie Island Deviled Crab, prepared by native islanders.
