In addition to Hilton Head’s incredible beaches, people and pets can find plenty of family-friendly parks all around the Island.

Years ago, the Town of Hilton Head started buying vacant land to preserve as much of the Island’s green space as possible. The Town has developed over 20 permanent community parks (with more planned for the future), all of which serve a variety of recreational purposes, from playgrounds and beaches to sports fields and historical nature trails, including the following popular spots:

Our Community Parks

Barker Field

Barker Field (70 Baygall Rd., located off Beach City Road, map): a baseball field, boardwalk, a multi-purpose field, observation deck, playground and restrooms.

Bristol Sports Arena

Bristol Sports Arena (4 Helmsman Way, located of Palmetto Bay and Arrow Rds., part of Crossings Park, map): a skateboard park, roller hockey rink, and basketball court.

Chaplin Community Park

Chaplin Community Park (11 Cast Net Dr., located off William Hilton Pkwy. between Burkes Beach and Singleton Rds., map): a basketball court, beach access, dog park, multi-purpose field, outdoor showers, picnic pavilion, playground, restrooms, tennis court, and trails.

Compass Rose Park

Compass Rose Park (4 St. Augustine Place, located on the corner of Pope Ave. and St. Augustine Place, map): public art and free Wi-Fi.

Crossings Park

Crossings Park (4 Haig Point Circ., located off Arrow Rd. and Helmsman Way, map): baseball field, grass meadow, picnic pavilion, playground, restrooms, soccer field, and trails.

Greens Shell Park

Greens Shell Park (99 Squire Pope Road, located off William Hilton Pkwy., map): basketball court, historical site, observation deck, picnic pavilion, playground, and restrooms.

Gregg Russell Playground

Gregg Russell Playground (located in Harbour Town within the Sea Pines Resort, map): a large shaded sandy area, tree house, wooden bridge, swings, slides, and benches.

Hilton Head Park

Hilton Head Park (Old Schoolhouse Park) (152 William Hilton Pkwy., map): basketball court, soccer field, and tennis court).

Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park

Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park (10 Fish Haul Creek, located near the end of Beach City Rd., map): historic site, observation dock, outdoor showers, picnic pavilion, restrooms, and trails.

Island Recreation Center

Island Recreation Center (20 Wilborn Rd., located off Gumtree Rd., map): basketball court, multi-purpose field, playground, year-around pool, restrooms, and tennis courts.

Jarvis Creek Park

Jarvis Creek Park (50 Jarvis Creek Rd., located off William Hilton Pkwy., map): fishing dock, fitness trail, grass meadow, grill, picnic pavilion, playground restrooms, and trails.

Lowcountry Celebration Park

Lowcountry Celebration Park (2 S Forest Beach Dr. at intersection with Pope Ave., map); 9-acre park with a playground, lagoon system with water feature, boardwalk, walking paths, open space for events, a stage, a restroom building and a children’s’ museum.

Rowing and Sailing Center at Squire Pope Community Park

Rowing and Sailing Center at Squire Pope Community Park (133 Squire Pope Rd., off Williams Hilton Pkwy. at Blazing Star Lane, map): pier, floating dock, grill, picnic pavilion, restrooms.

Shelter Cove Community Park

Shelter Cove Community Park (39 Shelter Cove Lane, off William Hilton Pkwy, behind Shelter Cove Towne Center, map): a boardwalk, observation deck, picnic pavilion, playground, restrooms, trails, veterans’ memorial, and free Wi-Fi.
